I understand the appael of mentally checking out....but going to a day-spa? And getting a facial ?If I had a pile of spare cash to blow on entertainment, I'd buy a vacuum chucking system for my wood lathe and take a day off from the office and make some bowls. Or I'd pick up a CNC retro conversion for my Sherline mini-mill and make some small brass machine parts....but a facial? Are you sure that these were men you were looking at, and not just ugly women?

Overview

Mughal magnificence has found a new meaning at Kaya Kalp-The Royal Spa, a regal new addition to the 35 acre ITC Mughal at Agra. The spa is spread across an area of more than 99,000 square feet, where guests can experience traditional therapies. The resort seems celebrate opulence and grandeur of the Mughal dynasty. A magnificent oasis of tranqullity, the resort has imbibed Mughal traditions with its extensive spread of greenery and water bodies, important elements of gardens laid out by the Mughals. It is well known that Babur, the first Mughal Emperor, brought his concept of gardens with running water channels, fountains, fragrant flowers and fruit bearing trees to India. ‘Gardens of Paradise’ at the spa are reminiscent of that famous Mughal architecture. Interiors designers from Bangkok, P49 Design & Associates recreated the very essence of the Mughal garden and concept of ‘paradise’ at the resort. This was achieved by incorporating fountains, rain water showers, as well as outdoor décor and interiors embellishments with stone, lattice work, mother of pearl work, inlay and mirror work. Architect and landscape designer Pradeep Sachdeva achieved a close synthesis between indoor and outdoor spaces, highlighting many influences of mughal landscaping and architecture at the spa. A visit to the spa may be considered a journey through a world of regal luxury and pampering. In salutation to Emperor Babur, the motif of pomegranate has been adapted as the main theme of the spa. At Kaya Kalp, the ruby red pomegranate is an important design element, used on walls, ceiling and on white terrazzo flooring, and as dramatic inlay of red stones sweeping across the floor. The Mughal mood is heightened at the open-air 25 metre lap pool which is surrounded by relaxation areas. Special poolside treatments are offered coupled with refreshments and snacks in keeping with mood of the spa. It is worth mentioning the fact that the Aga Khan Award Committee had singled out ITC Mughal for the award as ‘successfully achieving consistency with historical context.’ The spa is also a proud recipient of ‘Tatler Award 2008’ for the best City Spa in the World.
